At New Horizons Un-Limited we celebrate the ADA by honoring the activism and effort of the committee and volunteers:
Who Designed and Built the First Accessible Camping Cabins in the Wisconsin State Parks! 1990-1991!
Wisconsin was given a great gift in 1991, Mirror Lake Accessible Camping Cabin for people with disabilities and their families to be able to enjoy the Wisconsin State Park.
We must appreciate today the amount of time and commitment that the members of the committee, Kayleen Brereton’s dream and activism, the efforts of Anthonette Gilpatrick, Accessibility Coordinator for the Wisconsin DNR, the commitment of the Wisconsin DNR, Art Miller, the engineer (who founded New Horizons Un-Limited), the architect, Paul Quick II and the many ambitious and giving volunteers of the Telephone Pioneers.
This was just before the ADA was brought to law, yet the accessible ideas and decisions they made are the basis for the design and the accessible priorities and implementation of the seven additional cabins that have been built since 1991 in the Wisconsin State Parks.
We have told you our story, please share your ADA experience with NHU!
How has the ADA helped you?
